    Something that is overlooked by writers is audience awareness. This is when you are able to imagine an audience and put yourself in their place. Then you anticipate the needs of that audience and meet those needs.

    You need to see yourself through the eyes of the audience when you write. Make sure that you are using "you" over "I". This will let the audience know that you are focused on them. You want to make sure that you are knowledgeable about the topic and think of different ways to make it interesting for the audience. 

    Another thing that you need to be aware of is that the introduction needs to draw the audience in. The introduction is the deciding factor for an audience whether a paper is worth reading. When you do have effective audience awareness, you will have clear communication, and you will fit the expectations of the audience. 

    You will have to deal with miscommunication or disengagement when you fail to consider audience awareness. So, it's always good to make sure that you have audience awareness when you are writing something.
