Technical Genres
Technical Genres
While taking a technical writing class, I learned that there are many different types of technical writing genres. Some of the ones that we learned about were proposals, presentations, and user manuals. I am touching base on two other types of genres that can be used in the technical world.
One of the genres that I am going to talk about is case studies. A case study is an in-depth study of one person, group, or event. When it comes to a case study, every aspect of that person, group, or event's history is analyzed. A case study is all about gathering a lot of information and seeking out patterns and causes of behavior. There are a few cons with case studies. One of them is that they tend to be highly subjective, and another is that it tends to be difficult to generalize results to a larger population.
Another genre is user guides. User guides are instructional materials that come with your product to help you use it. It will provide you with detailed information about a certain product's functions, troubleshooting, and operations. There can be some challenges with creating user guides. Some of those challenges are that they can be time-consuming to create, the product gets updated, or there isn't a simple way to write the instructions.
I hope that this blog helps with learning some other technical genres that you didn't know about.
